polhook.dll

This can't be a standard .dll that comes with pol. Its from windower right?
I can't see any reason why SE would have a hook into their own program like this so I'm really sure its from windower...Can anyone be 100% positive its from windower, or not from windower..like someone who hasn't ever used windower or just did a fresh install w/o windower?
I'd like to know since I'm trying to outsmart my IT team and doing a pretty good job until I heard from someone in IT that they track .exes .. some software from dell.
So oddly enough you can change the process .exe name just by changing the exe name.. like I can rename firefox.exe to dumb.exe and it will show up in the processes as dumb.exe lol. So I'd like to change pol.exe to something like iexplore hahahaha but I can't get windower to hook into it unless its pol.exe

I know they used to have a way to point to the file directly. I don't know if they do this now with that polhook.dll or through the registry or what. If anyone has any insight I'd sure love to hear it. Cause I want to be 100% sure they don't know whats up lol, even though I can only play an hour or so a day at like 7pm haha, I'd still like my slate clean. Already deleted the uninstall from the registry so the peaons won't be able to find it if they looked haha.

When I changed the polhook.dll and tried to run windower it'd say the hook wasn't found so try reinstalling.. reinstalling windower?? I didn't know you had to install windower lol, so not sure if its a SE file or windower file anymore.. and if it is a windower file how'd it get there w/o me supplying the directory.. etc

I guess a side question as well.
Which do you think would be better, using a virtual machine to just run ff over mine or remoting in to my home computer, which I'd have to set up etc lol.
I don't really know much about either so pros/cons please

I have a feeling polhook.dll has pol.exe hardcoded, which is zzzzzzzzz programming. Virtual machine would work better than streaming ff files from home XD

bored seeking merit pt so I looked up on BG
Dude with 1 posts wrote:I know this is a really really old thread, but it is the first result in the google search for "polhook.dll" so I figured I'd post a fix on this, in the same directory all your pol files are in, theres a polhook.dll.tmp file, and a pol.exe.tmp file, you need to delete the pol.exe file, the polhook.dll file and rename the tmp files to pol.exe and polhook.dll respectivly.
btw nice forum you guys have here, I'm going to be coming back to FFXI here shortly, might have to make a server change

Not sure how relavent it is lol. I don't see a .tmp for either and I show hidden files lol. Probably old back when you could specify the location of pol.exe
Thanks though, gonna search the dll a bit more there and see whats up

I'm not sure if its specifically pol.exe but I know path information about the POL/FFXI executables are stored in the registry. I have my POL folder installed to D:\ to avoid 10 hour POL/FFXI updates everytime I format my C:\ and I need to rerun the .reg file to add it back to the registry before I can run FFXI.
