iMoogle - An FFXI/FFXIV LS (2003 - 2014)

I went through a number of posts on various forums comparing these two armors. Personally I can't make up my mind. Currently, with WAR at 61, I'm using Haubergeon for TP and Byrnie HQ for WS. Not many BRDs these days.. At this level Rampage damage ranges from 500-900 damage on regular VT/IT ranged mobs.

I'm using PCC along with the Byrnie for Acc, but now I'm thinking of switching to Haube + Spike Neck ~.~; Thus making Byrnie seem totally obsolete. What good is a Byrnie for? lol

Haube + Spike:
STR+8 DEX+8 Acc+10 Atk+10 Eva-20

Brynie+1 + PCC:
STR+5 DEX-5 VIT+5 Atk+25 Acc+10


I haven't leveled on high evasion stuff yet though, like Toramas..

Truhls always used to say Byrnie + 1 was the best armour he used, he had a PCC too.

With merit and sushi acc is rarely an issue. With ninja, warrior and pld/nin(yeah I do that) I would rather go with Byrnie since you don't lose 20 evasion and get +25hp. You might rank up slightly higher ws with Haubergeon but then again you can get osode or Hecatomb harness for that later.

If you compare average dmg with either armor on a ws calculator, the difference is not that noticeable. Use the one thats worth the most to look pimp.

A regular Haub is better than a regular Byrnie, but omggggg a Byrnie+1 is the best. If I had one, I'd use it.

Maybe if I had Byakko Haidate (it's never dropping for me!) I'd lean more toward the Byrnie. The -3DEX doesn't attract me much, but the no -20 eva is nice.

The difference is probably that small that it won't matter.

However, looking at it from a ninja side I'd say Haub/+1 is probably the best pure DD body piece you can wear even with the -20 evasion because really if you're going DD then there's no point worrying about all that evasion. If you're tanking something that you need evasion for or enmity/dmg reduction you wouldn't really be using Byrnie anyways. Plus it's not like you can't tank with a haub, with a brd I've tanked Aura Statues fine with it and Decorative Weapons don't usually last long enough for me to worry about it.

Can't comment on the war side of things as mine's still 37.

Bah the big difference with ninja I guess is that dex is not a rampage stat modifier like jin. I still think orange is cooler ;p
