Let's do a quest irl~~

#1 Post by Lappi »

The quest is to help me find a nice laptop... so I can do my hmwk and research and stuff... while also allowing me to play FF and WoW ^____^;
About a month ago i got back my screwed up gateway laptop after approx 2-3 months being in "repair" by futureshop (same company as bestbuy) and i wasn't very happy. just yesterday it died again... and again the same problem... so i need to find a new laptop... while i probably wait another 2-3 months for futureshop to repair my laptop... unless they replace me a better one... wahahahahahahaha....

but yes... find me laptop... please :( with centrino :)
i was looking at alienware area 70 or whatever. really awesome for games i hear... but i don't see centrino processor on it!! ORZ :(
<3 you long time if help me~~

here you go lap: http://www1.us.dell.com/content/topics/ ... l=en&s=dhs

this thing is sick. kiluded and gloryboy (wow players, for all you ffxi losers wahaha) both got one. i was used kiluded's for one MC session - it's amazing. 40 ppl, full effects, in MC... steady 55+ fps. it's ging.

quiet, doesn't get hot (centrino after all). there are coupons online that will take $750-800 off the price. i think they both got it for about $2400 shipped. can't mess with it. get!

Oh and kenny it isn't have problems right? Like ppl say dell sometimes breaks down after awhile~~ And I haven't had experience with dell notebook yet >___<

Yesterday while searching I ran into these ones:

Sony VAIO S270B/S380B
Dell Inspiron 9300
Apple Powerbook G4 (Only looked at this b/c of my requirement to play with adobe alot >___< )

But yea~~ If I don't get positive feedback on the ones I found I'll have to go order that dell one~~

well that dell is brand new, so it might be a little early to say if there are any "real" problems. dell is pretty solid, i think. if you want a real peace of mind you could always get an extended warranty.

but like i said, i did 2 hours of Molten Core on that laptop, and it didn't get hot at all. lots of mobs, 40ppl spamming everything they got for 2hrs straight, all at a steady 55+fps. dying never looked so good!

oh btw, if you can get the 35% off coupon, it will get the price (as kiluded configured his, the one i played on) down to $2050 @@

can't beat that price.

oh btw, using adobe a lot doesn't mean you have to get an apple. i love apple's, but bang for the buck, you're not beating the prices on windoze machines.

my brother have dell laptop and its very reliable.
I think only broke down 1 time during 8 months, but because it was under waranty, they got a techinician to come to our home and install new mainboard.

Not sure if they do that in HK or US, but in australia they are pretty good with their warantee commitments.

What laptop you get depends on alot of factors. If you want thin and light (1-1.9kg) you can go for Sony Vaio's which are really good, or maybe even the dell 700m, but problem with thin and light, is that most of them use onboard video card which is very poor for gaming.

The laptops that have geforce or ati x600/700, they are very good for gaming, but tend to be a bit bigger and heavier.

Another option is Toshiba. Their build quality is very good. I had a toshiba for 4 years, and in that time, i did not have to use waranty because it was so well built and reliable.

Another tip: if manufacturer offers extended warantees. you should get it. Doesn't cost that much, but you will save later on if laptop break outside original waranty period.
