NIN vs PLD: Face Rape Tanking

#1 Post by Kirakun »

Doing some comparisons between PLD and NIN tanks. Based on tests and reported results, NINs take less physical dmg than PLDs. The primary advantage of having PLD over NIN is high enmity.

Comment if you like. Constructive critcism only please.

Omitting Defender Ring for apparent reasons.

PLD:
Earth Staff: -20% Dmg
Jelly Ring: -5% Dmg / +5% Magical Dmg
High VIT
High HP
High Enmity

NIN:
Earth Staff: -20% Dmg
Arhat Gi+1: -9% Dmg
Jelly Ring: -5% Dmg / +5% Magical Dmg
Arhat Head+1: -6% Dmg
Lack Enmity
Accessible HP Gears
Mediocre VIT

Dmg reduction isn't that hot on hnm that mostly kill you using huge spell. So often when I kite I prefer using that +4 enmity sword + Koenig for an extra +7 enmity.

Ninja have a huge variety of gears which can give them pretty good vit(kabuto, Osode, earth staff and so forth) or very good enmity(jse, dorado sushi, rings etc) you can get around +30 with merits.

It's a matter of balancing what you go for depending what you fight. When you end up with a pld/nin + nin/war duo on a hard hnm without a SaTa backup(like Ouryu) seems to me that both end up about equal. Ninja make constant hate with voke and pld/nin get some hate spike when there is a lot of curing to do.

As for straight tanking physical dmg well might seem like Ninja has the upper hand but if you drop the earth staff and cap shield you will take much less dmg per hit on average. I can't give you number because I lvled paladin to 60 before the shield patch and now my skill is so far behind that I never plan on capping it because it's so ridiculously slow and tedious to skill up.

As for enmity apparently nin/drk can make a lot. Nar drk sub isn't lvled so I couldn't test myself. But we all know how much hate Soul Eater can give even in sub and there is also last resort and stun.

cap shield method: Den of R. voke a black mandy and stand by the zone line use all VIT gear and VIT food.

PLD/WAR is not a t2t tank in HNM fight, it's a 'bait' job... kiting HNM etc.

usually when new things come out people use PLD to tank it... then once it's refined NIN can tank it with less maintenance and few people... then once it's more refined... people start to Duo/solo WAR tank it.

Yeah I know the Den of Rancor thing but it's still damn long. I bet pld/blu would do well to skill up.

War/blu with enough refresh must be a sick "face rape" tank.

Idunno my shield is capped since I pl myself and rejecting gay na parties w.....
I feel is like reverse of war double att lol instead of gaining occasional fast tp...pld get min dmg at times save my mp and whms... in some fight there is no need to use much high cure since I am tarutaru cure 2 and few times cure 3 would do the trick..
yes I am lowb phoney pld lvl 60 ; ;

I am waiting for ping pong to buy his own gears soon lol I want to 75 it very soon

Had to just inform ppl whov not touched PLD since the update to it, shield now skills up like crazy. My shield at 75 was 8 lvs from cap then the update came and I make a pty just to see the differances and in 1 pty it caped, 3hr pty.

As for the PLD vs NIN debate I have begun to avoid this topic as Im finding less and less PLDs loving the job anymore as they claim its harder to get ptys at hi lvs. (add that to the list of advantages/disadvantages)

EXP:
PLD at early lvs is king
NIN 60+ has access to enough att+ and evasion+ gear that a
competent player makes exp fast and easy for a pty.

HNM GODs:
PLD fast mele attacking mobs pld is almost needed
NIN slow mele attacking mobs who nuke nin takes
exceptionaly well with little support help.

What it all comes down to in the end imo is not the job so much as the person behind that job knowing what to do in a given situation. But skill and quick thinking have limits vs certain situations and that is when the job does matter.

I will say this thou, when I started this game I was antininja which I know was childish of me. The issue I was dealing with was alot of new NA players wanting to lv a job they didnt understand but that is no longer the case as there are many outstanding NA players with nin lved up. Just as now Im seeing alot of NA players who I want to cry when I get in a exp/endgame situation with them, a PLD who dosent cure him/herself is useless once all is said and done. A nin who does no damage and cant time blinks is useless once all is said and done.

-ok Im done let the 'poke dark with a sharp stick in his eye' begin-
rank10 windy sandy bastok- CoP *complete* - ZM17 - Cooking 102 =pld75 rdm75 rng67 whm62 nin52 brd50=

imo , pld is the ultimate tank for hnms...

Cure 4 itself its a provoke
Flash is 3/4 provoke
provoke is a provoke...

with so many hate adding equip and emnity gear ... pld is cool for hnms

in PT , ninja deal more dmg , hit fast , give mob less tp ... its cool too ...

but pld with DD gear they can dish out high dmg too ...
pld have high base str and able to equip most str gear
equipment like hecatomb , justice sword , hrotti(hi dmg)

whereas ninja have shura to add str ...

to end up , PLD is A+ for tanking hnms , not a bad DD... Nin is cool for pt , but B- for hnms...

good PLD who knows how to use <stpc> to cure in a tanking HNM fellow PLD will have almost the maximum hate u can find ingame to tank for the entire fight.

NIN is only good for tanking in XP PT and certain HNMs where they hit slow or is a better choice(example byakko)

its ALWAYS possible to tank ANY HNM with a PLD
NIN cant
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
DMG wise, NIN better for sure due to dual wield for fast TP and WS

PLD can come close with joyyese and justice sword if u have one for free fast DA but dmg wise, nin still do better

Yes, <stpc> is very very useful. The main reason why I would choose PLD over NIN tank, is PLD's ability to hold hate very well, so that BLMs can nuke without worries.

In the end it's really about efficiency. The type the HNM is and it's abilities, some of them PLD would be best, some NIN etc.

I drool at PLD's enmity gears. ^-^
