Square Enix wrote: Matters of concern within the community

In the following section, we will be explaining the Special Task Force's direction and plans in dealing with matters of concern within the community.

- I've seen people on the internet claiming to have changed the game's interface and then played the game. Why haven't these people's accounts been banned yet?
With only the insufficient information from a website to go on, we cannot make a judgment regarding the situation. Of course, the use of external programs displaying party members' TP or alliance members' MP is prohibited. If the Special Task Force can verify that a player has been using such programs, this evidence can be used to ban the player in question.
Also, many such unauthorized external programs have the ability to steal one's PlayOnline ID and password. To protect yourself from the possibility of unauthorized third-party access to your account, please refrain from using programs not approved by Square Enix.
Internet Hearts to all those ppl out there that have nothing better to do in game except to try and ban ppl.

This means SE has no way of tracking windower / plugins or any other client sided mod w/o actually snooping onto your PC. :db:

Or they do but they realize such a large portion of their PC users and hard core gamers use windower that if they banned them the game would collapse and their cash cow would be shot

And this is just some "Official Statement" saying we aren't going to do anything to those that use windower. lol

Windower, and most of the plugins, are things SE should have done already.

Distance: Arguable, but why not?

TParty: With DNC now, seeing someone's TP is as vital as seeing someone's MP. Unless you wanna be spammed with worded macros.

MP Across Alliance: Uh, why not? If PS2 space is a concern, give us an option to turn it off if we feel like it.

Macro space: Is it really that hard to do? Don't say PS2 limitations, a .txt or similiar file containing all the macros isn't very big. They could even limit the macro to 12 lines. Afraid of people abusing it to bot/automate actions? Hi FFXIapp.

And I agree with Red. I'd guess the majority of the PC players use Windower. Some don't, in fear of getting b&, but why ban people for this?

I remember when I was playing WoW..there was as rather large cry for some option..I forget what it was in wow..but it only took a few weeks for Bliz to put it in the game. I was pretty impressed and happy about that.

Yeah Bliz is pretty good at listening to their paying customers.

Bliz:
Dude makes post saying he wants xxx
People agree
Bliz determines if it is possible/gamebreaking/retarded
Puts it in or doesn't

SE:
Dude makes post saying he wants xxx
People agree
SE claims to read the popular boards, and even has reps for major ones
People QQ moar
People get pissed off
SE puts in a cheese sandwich and Wyvern emotes 6 months later

Perfect example is /dance emote. People wanted it to be animated for the longest time. It never was. SE released Dancer. People leveled DNC to dance. Couple months later SE puts in /dance emotes...

Thing that helped bliz out some was they had an official forum.

And I think windower would be a better example than /dance lol. Considering its a huge 3rd party app thats been around for years and they finally decided to make a crappy windower lol.

SE's "windower" is just a windowed mode, which comes standard in a lot of games. However, they f'd theirs up and you can/will lag all to hell when using it. How they messed up? I don't know cause I'm not a programmer.

As for copying the windower and removing plugins.. copyright infringement maybe. Either that or they dunno how to do it.

well my point was not to literally copy out, but point out that some unpaid guys managed to make a much better version of what the people wanted, using only a few small files, than the multi million dollar company that created the game

Many years ago when windower was still pretty 'underground' there was always a joke floating around that SE should hire them...They really should have...Recast, Party TP, Alliance MP, Hell distance isn't even that bad of an idea, Unlimited macro lines... All these things mosh pointed out already should have been in game and would not be game breaking.

The only one that wouldn't really be applicable apparently is the macros because of ps2, but hell give us 18lines per macro, 16possible gear swaps and a command or two. Not hard since we got 20books for 10 macro pages with 20macros per page....

Oh well, w/e SE will continue to fail. And They better clean up their act pretty fast if they intend to release another lolMMO by SE. Their reputation isn't very strong amongst MMOers I'd gather after the past few months of hackings and then banning the legit hacked players...and their constant bad service to the community.

Only saving grace for their new MMO would be if they tagged the Final Fantasy name to it and get the fan bois again.

My first thought when they released the 20 macro books was "OMG YAY!". My 2nd thought was "Wait wut? They can't make more lines per macro but can increase the whole thing x20?"

You have 16 equip slots. You wouldn't ever really need to change all 16, so let's say 14.

Current:
6 lines per macro.
20 macros per palette.
10 palettes per book
20 books
(6*20*10*20) = 24,000 lines

Coulda done:
14 lines per macro
20 macros per palette
10 pallets per book
1 book
(14*20*10*1) = 2,800 lines

Hell, you could give us 5 books and still be at 14,000, 10,000 less than what we currently have. With our current setup, how many people use all 20 books and all are filled? And realistically filled, not a palette designed for dancing and /random and /ma "Raise III" Pigsfart

I use 27 palettes, with a Palette devoted to lolPUP. And I really don't need to make any more room.

I do admit...since macro lines isn't an issue for me that the books are kind of nice. I have a book for blm, rdm, lolsch, and other misc jobs. Yea I know 20 books 20jobs blah blah lol

My blm and rdm could easily go with 1-2 pallets each, but I use a few more just because I can. They are all the same macros.. just different potency for my nukes/enfeebs.

I could just be lazy and go in and change the txt 'extention' but why do that when I can fill up pallettsssss
