Trinary Tap can also absorb negative status effects I "think." Regardless, however, it absorbs three status effects from whomever it attacks. Mages should most likely buff for this fight, as Trinary Tap should never be allowed to hit them as it can one-hit kill mages who've been damaged by other AoE or poison pots. It still may mot be nessecary to buff though. I strongly advise the use of Anima for this fight, this is especially important to buy your Summoner time to use Astral Flow. When I tried to 2hour the mob as a SMN, it always seemed to use AoE sleep to cancel out my Astral Flow attack (it did this twice). The AoE sleep can be absolutely devasting if you do not have Poison pots. Be prepared, be safe, and good luck guys. Tavnazia is not far away.
